Just before 08:00 Local Time (07:00GMT) on Tuesday 22 March 2016, two separate explosions occurred inside the terminal building at Brussels Zaventem Airport causing major damage.
- Clients were alerted at 07:20 GMT and informed if they had travellers in the area. For those affected Reed & Mackay began contacting the travellers to confirm safety
- At 08:30 GMT a second explosion at Maalbeek Metro station was reported
- Frequent alerts were sent keeping clients informed of the security situation in Brussels and the contact status of their employees
- Within three hours all travellers were accounted for. The prolonged response time was driven by travellers who were in meetings within Government buildings at the time of attack. With the buildings on lock down, the travellers could not communicate their safety until the lock down was lifted.
